What to Bring for Your Companion Rescue Skills Course
We will not be traveling far on this field day. Come prepared to stand around in cold temperatures. The following list should keep you warm and prepared so you can focus on your learning.
What to bring:
Alberta Conservation Pass
A pack (30 liter +) which is large enough to carry a shovel, probe, layers you will take off when you warm up, plus your lunch, water/tea, and high calorie snacks
Snowshoes or skis with skins or split board with skins (skins will stay on your skis/boards the entire day)
Warm sorel-style boots for snowshoes or your warm touring boots
Ski poles with snow baskets
Avalanche transceiver, 3 meter probe and shovel
Winter hat, mitts, gloves and neck buff/scarf, hand warmers
Sunglasses, googles
Sunscreen and lip block
1 liter of water and/or thermos of tea
Lunch and high calorie snacks
Avalanche and weather forecast
What to wear for the day:
Top Layer:
Two long sleeved Merino wool or similar (synthetic, not cotton)
A warm layer such as a fleece jacket or wool sweater
Insulated down jacket with hood
Waterproof jacket with hood that fits over down jacket
Bottom Layer:
Insulated pants such as ski pants.
Merino wool or similar long johns (two pairs if the temperatures plummet)
