Companion Rescue Skills
How confident are you that you can use your transceiver to find your friend under the snow when there is interference, or more than one of your friends are under the snow? Or it’s a large area to search or you think it’s a deep burial? This course is designed to refresh and up date your avalanche search and rescue skills. Bring your ski or snowshoe friends and be prepared to have lots of practice and instruction in search and rescue with beacons, probes and shovels. We will cover deep burials, multiple burials, and probing and shovelling techniques. Our Avalanche Safety Instructors are certified ACMG guides and members of the Canadian Avalanche Association. Jane Whitney is a Level 2 certified member of the Canadian Avalanche Association and has been teaching AST for years.
COMPANION RESCUE SKILLS
It is recommended that you bring your group of friends that you travel with in the backcountry in winter for this course. Once we receive your custom booking, we will send you an information package on where the course will take place. We will not walk far on this field day as the goal is to practice and master our rescue skills. This course is the refresher we all need every year to keep ourselves sharp on our avalanche rescue skills. Taking the refresher with the party you usually recreate with in the winter back country will help you recognize the strengths and weaknesses in your party and help guide you to make better decisions while in the field. We will cover the latest techniques for searching, probing and shovelling with an emphasis on multi burial and deep burials. We will also cover tree extraction and field leadership.
