What to Bring for Your Map and Compass Skills Day
Mountain weather can change quickly, and go from being quite lovely and warm to very cold indeed. Dressing in layers is the way to deal with these changing conditions. You can add more layers as you cool down, or take off a layer as you warm up.
What to bring in your day pack:
A waterproof jacket and waterproof pants
An insulated jacket that stuffs small (down jacket is nice…Yes, this is the summer hiking list)
Sunscreen, lip block, and sunhat
1 liter of water or more
Snack
What to wear for the day:
Top Layer:
A short sleeved Moreno wool or similar (synthetic, not cotton)
A long sleeved Moreno wool or similar (synthetic, not cotton) over the above short sleeve
Bottom Layer:
Quick dry pants. You may enjoy having zip off legs
Footwear:
A sturdy walking shoe, runner or light hiking boot, all with good soles
What to bring for the course:
Notebook and pencil
Silvia compass
